OGDENSBURG - Finding fun activities for those in the dementia unit at any skilled nursing facility is a challenge faced by facilities across the country.
It's also a challenge that Rebecca Holt, a CNA at RiverLedge Health Care & Rehabilitation Center has taken on with enthusiasm.
"Rebecca currently is in charge of activities on our dementia unit," wrote Assistant Director of Nursing Madison Brossoit, when nominating Ms. Holt for a Life Improved Award. "She has a calming approach with the residents and Rebecca brings about a positive atmosphere and work environment on the unit."
The challenge though, isn't just one she tackles while at work.
"She
goes home and does her own research on dementia to help her better
understand dementia and to help improve the care she can provide to the
residents," Ms. Brossoit wrote. "With the information that she learns, she brings it
back to work and implements it into her daily routine with the
residents. She goes the extra mile every day for the residents and it shows."
