When one member of that team is unavailable things can get hectic, but for a several week stretch last year that four person department was down to two.
Someone had to step up and Dawn Crossett did.
"In November, our department was faced with unfortunate circumstances for two of our four staff. One staff member was facing a potential life-threatening health diagnosis and the other was enduring end life for a loved one," wrote Administrative Assistant Betsy Porter. "Both requiring substantial time away from work."
Those circumstances left Ms. Porter and Ms. Crossett as the only two employees in a department that is often busy when running at full strength.
"Dawn dug her heals along side of me to make sure payroll was complete and checks were distributed," Ms. Porter wrote. "Additionally, she helped me cover eight sessions of fingerprinting weekly, work skills assessments, job postings,
meetings, orientations for new staff, payroll questions - all of this in
addition to completing our own full-time job assignments."
Ms. Crossett's willingness to step up showcased the type of person she is, one who lives by the United Helpers's Life Improved mantra and that is why she was recognized with an honorable mention Life Improved Award.
"I truly would
not have made it through this five weeks without her dedication and help. Dawn
never hesitated or complained of the workload. She just jumped in and made sure
things got done," Ms. Porter wrote. " I am beyond thankful that I had Dawn by my side. This is
why I truly believe she deserves this honor."
